Equestrian Projects

Funded by Division 5
We’ve got a good focus on equestrian activities in Division 5 and some recent projects include:

A new Round Yard at Tom Rose Park, Wandin Street Nerang.

A new Round Yard at Darwalla Reserve, Nathanvale.
(These round yards are really good quality features and will provide a lot of great opportunity for riders and horses alike to learn skills safely.)

Healing Hooves at Country Paradise (Nerang) has purchased relocatable barriers/stalls to ensure the horses and ponies are able to be relocated and kept safe during flood events at Country Paradise.
Funds have been allocated to construct a HQ for Healing Hooves in recognition of the amazing and impacting work they do for people in need of our support.

New Learn to Swim facility at Nerang Pool!

Yes, this year we will see the complete replacement of the existing learn-to-swim facility and it is going to be a knock-out.

At a cost of $950,000, the new facility will be approximately 15m x 8m and enclosed in a purpose built facility, with a ramp access. The water temperature will be 32 degrees and this is good for both swimming and pool-based therapy programs and activities. Although not strictly hydrotherapy, which is normally 34 degrees or more, the facility can provide similar benefits. An evaluation is being undertaken to determine the ideal depth to cater for both needs.

Construction is anticipated from April 2019 and will take about six months.

My Centre Nerang Re-Development

Big re-development of My Centre shopping centre on Gilston Road.

Approval has been granted for a major redevelopment and expansion. After numerous meetings and close assessment over the past 12 months or more,  approval is to be issued under Delegated Authority (ie by Council officers). This approval stems from the original approval granted in 2008. The site has been earmarked for development since the early 1990s.

My Centre is currently 9,140 sq metres. This expansion will introduce an additional 17,525 sq metres!
You can read more about this on our blog.

Restoration works to permanently repair the damage sustained on Gold Coast-Springbrook Road during the wet weather event associated with ex-severe Tropical Cyclone Debbie in March 2017. The volume and intensity of the rainfall caused significant damage to slope stability, with 112 recorded locations of landslips, above and below the road.

Transport and Main Roads are finalising solutions to permanently repair approximately 30 critical sites and a team of specialised designers has been engaged.
Transport and Main Roads is committed to restoring full access for the community as soon as possible.
